RP 17th December

User
Posted 05 Nov 2019 at 14:41

OK,  confirmed T2bN0Mx Gleason 7 (4+3), 5/6 cores left side 1/6 right side. CT Scan shows clear.  We elected for RP which is being estimated 16th Dec at the moment (pre-op) next week.

Just for good measures, they also have to mess around with my chemo (I have chronic eosinophilic leukaemia (CEL)), which I was not expecting (having been in managed remission for about 4 years), as the chemo can affect my 'healing' - that worries me a bit.    Flippin' hate cancer!

Great to hear you are making excellent progress. Check this the nursing staff who will be doing the TWOC. I took some tens level 3 and they gave me an adult nappy and pads anyway but additional were for reassurance. Better to be over equipped. I also took a couple of gel travel Johns with me but didn’t need them on long train journey back...although not sure how I would have used as at min need a quiet area :-/

hope you have a fabulous festive week.

Good luck BH.   I had my op on 16th Dec 2016 and was Gleason 4+3.  Yours is a Monday op and you should be home on Wednesday.   Could they fit staples out and catheter out before Christmas or will it be in the Christmas break?

Mine was 28th Dec staples out,  30th Dec catheter out.  The district nurse came round as well but I didn't need her. Make sure you have some good pads.   I found Boots pads are warm and well sized.

Regards
Peter

So pre-op all good.

My BP was 127/80 which was spot on!! BMI too big for my size (whats new!) Surgery is on the 17th Dec at Spire Southampton - 0730 start! Looks like a gentle prostate free Christmas!!!

Hope all is fine and you are now looking forward to getting home. Every one is saying taking it easy so trying to offload seems like a good idea. I am a day before you so keep us posted when you feel up to it.

So far so good, and as you say.. "now for the recovery!"

Take it easy, there's no rush.

Hey BHP!

Great to heat you see making good progress. At least plenty on TV this time of year to burn time plus friends and family around.

Take it easy and 30th will be here in a blink.

Free Willy day is planned for 30th December, so Christmas with a bag!

Good to hear you are doing so well without any pain. Still listen to what everyone is saying and take it easy ,even if you feel you can do more. Be extra careful with cleanliness as I picked up a water infection last time I had the bag on (after biopsies) and not very nice when peeing. Good luck with the future and keep us posted.

BH

TWOC is quite straightforward, keep yourself well hydrated the day before and on the day. Drink little and often on the day and then follow the instructions of the nurse at the clinic. Stay relaxed and it will be a breeze. Take a towel and seat cover to put on the car seat for the return journey just in case.

Have a great Christmas.

Thanks Chris

Good to hear things are moving along nicely. It would appear your catheter will be in for longer than me. I have just received confirmation of my TWOC, which is on the 27th. Hope you continue to recover and try and enjoy your Xmas as much as possible. I have been fortunate in having a 5 year grandson who lives very close by. Fortunately we will be spending some of the time with him and family on Christmas day. Which will fortunately give my wife a break as I haven't been able to help much. Hope you manage to sort out some of your other issue out and agree this forum has been a great help

That’s good. I found I leaked when walking fast or coughing after the catheter was removed. Watch out if you exert yourself!

Sounds like you’re doing well.

Did you get scanned to see if you were emptying your bladder?

Best wishes,

Wow sounds like you are doing amazingly. Here it's like Niagra falls. Only joking. Keep us posted and we'll done.

BH

That's a great start, don't go to the loo "just in case" but don't wait too long either. Tense the pelvic muscles when standing up.

Thanks Chris

User
Posted 30 Dec 2019 at 18:38

Thanks for that Chris, I'll keep that in mind. Must admit things feel a bit sore internally down there at the moment, but is suspect that is to be expected only 10 hours since catheter removed, and them urethral muscles haven't been used for 2 weeks!

Managing to retain about 150mls before bladder starts to feel a little full. Onky on water and tea for now until things progress further. Standing up is definitely better than sitting!

Looking at your numbers you seem to be in a better position having T2b compared to mine T3a /N0/M0 Gleasom 3+4 psa 8.74 I am not sure how much of a difference is between T2b and T3a other than mine was at the edge of the prostrate but might not be contained, whereas yours is within the prostrate. That's my understanding but could be wrong. Good luck with the results.

Biopsies 5 out of 11 cores on the right, left hand side biopsies benign. Fingers crossed we don't get any upgrades.

Gents

Just wanted to wish you the best for your PSA readings.  Saw my urologist today for PSA reading of 0.02 six weeks post op and confirmation that negative margin (which is good as I understand it) in tissue margin removed.

Next PSA in 4 months when I hope reading will be undetected.

Best wishes

I think they are going to be a little cautious post surgery - my skin is fragile due to my chemo and all sorts of discussions have gone on between the urology team and my haematologist. Still, I won't be doing much over Christmas now!

So, it's out, and according to the surgeon, he has managed some left side nerve sparing.

Lost a litre of blood in surgery, but other than that (and a crap night sleep last night), drains are out, I'm walking around, and going home in about 4 hours time.  It has been relatively painless this far.....  now for the recovery!
