Hi there i was diagnosed with prostate cancer 6 months ago, at the age of 52. my cancer journey started about 18months ago when being a relatively fit young man just did not feel 100% but having hypothyroidism you naturally put it down not feeling so well to that" i did anyway. having several visits to my doctors and my main issues was discomfit in the rear passage especially sitting down for long periods of time, hot sweats during sleep at night and feeling low. doctors examined my prostate about 3 times the old fashion finger examination up the bum. And nothing was of concern as every thing felt normal to the doctor. and because i did not have any of the normal symptoms that is associated with prostate irregularities this then became a no concern or alarm. the next step i was sent to have a colonoscopy to rule out any issues with the bowl as the doctor was just investigating at anything regarding my issue. anyway this came back all clear and yet again i was told everything is fine go home and enjoy life basically. But i just did not feel well so back to the doctors again this time it was a phone call as appointments in my area was weeks and weeks away, spoke to a different doctor this time told him my symptoms and he straight away asked if i have ever had a psa test? i said whats that? anyway had the test result came back 9.5, we all know what happens next off to hospital, MRI scan, shadows found, biopsy that identified a very aggressive cancer.then bone scan, don't forget worrying waiting time in-between everything as results take for ever.
consultant interview, options radio therapy or surgery, i opted for surgery as i wanted the cancer out, then the draw back 3months waiting time for surgery unless your private, whilst waiting for surgery put on zoladex hormone therapy, this brought my psa results down to 1.7, This is a woman hormone so hot flushes, uncontrollable sobbing, aching limbs , But keeps you alive until your OP
Now 3 months after surgery. prostate removed along with cancer, lymph nodes, sperm sack removed, nerves saved on the one side ( the side of the prostate that was not infected this is why the doctors could not feel any abnormality when doing the finger investigation test because the prostate felt fine) PSA test now after OP is 0, no further treatment required as cancer was retained within the prostate. i was very LUCKY to catch this disease in time as so many men don't realise they have a problem until its to late
that's why i tell all my mates get a PSA test done better to be safe then sorry.......
