9 out of 12 worrying me

On my biopsy 9 out of 12 samples were cancerous, 6/6 on one side 3/6 n the other.


Highest percentages on both sides 50 and 40.


This is worrying me. I haven't seen anyone else on here with as many.


Should I be worried? I have been told my there is no rush to choose treatment.


Any thoughts?

You appear to have a higher proprtion of positives because you had fewer cores than most men would these days; it is likely that your cancer - which is still too small to feel or see - is in the most common area and the urologist had a good idea of where to look because he does this all the time.

Being diagnosed with cancer is bad enough - try not to let your thoughts make it worse by trying to interpret half a story. One of the key things to surviving this whole trauma is learning to trust your specialists.

What is more important is whether the tumours are contained within the capsule, ie the staging. An MRI normally helps determine this but in your case it appears to show nothing. If you go ahead with prostatectomy, as you seem to be contemplating, all the cancer within the prostate should be removed with it. Whether this has been possible is usually seen by the surgeon when he operates or when the prostate is subsequently sliced in the lab.

I had ten out of 12 positive and Gleason was 4+3. So as said, do not read too much into it. Make sure you stay positive.

As Lyn says. Totally agree. Seems half a story. Firstly no rush. Ie 4 weeks can be seen as rushing. .. Re. Why half a story. My thoughts are T1c suggests tumour can not be seen on MRI , yet 50% of a core or average of all cores ?? The core is about 10 mm long from my understanding and circa less 1 mm diameter. Also positive cores on both sides. I assume you will have face to face discussion with consultant rather than GP to clarify everything. Ie physical position of tumour(s). Finally I've just heard from my brother, who lives in Australia is having FLA. focal laser ablation. Something I shall be talking with him tonight. He has just been diagnosed Gleason 4 + 3. PSA 3.57 . The reason I reiterate take your time. As numerous options for you. You are young and obviously major implications re. ED. I wasn't aware until he rang FLA was an option for cancer removal. Again reading other posts other options other than RT or RP need inspection. Hope this helps. I need to post more about my brother on here once I get all the data.

Thanks everybody for your replies. I find it hard not to worry about this now I know and my instinct s to get it out, amd as soon as possible, whereas consultant and nurses all seem quite calm about it.
