Post Chemo & Enzalutamide

brilliant news, latest research in uSA shows that those that respond well to Enza also respond well to Abby, because of the order your hubby has had treatent this should also be available to him. If Enza is working then keep with that it is a wonderful drug if it is prescribed early enough.

Unfortunately, it is presently the case that if you have had Enzalutamide , then you can't have Abiraterone.

'tis one or t'other for the time being at least.

Thanks everyone. Just to confirm, Abiraterone will still be available as had Enzalutamide first. It's a roller coaster! Off to see Lee Evans tonight for some laughs!

Also, RIP Alvin Stardust. My uncles knew him in his days of Shane Fenton.

Finished my chemo on 4th Aug. PSA then 27. By Oct PSA up to 56. CT scan, Bone Scan and MRI scans now done. Oncho appt on 27th Oct. May be drunk till Monday. May be starting enzalutamide soon.

Lots of pain but fitting bathroom kitchen, shower room and 0.5 acre gardening still got to be done.

I hope I'm wrong then, but that is what was explained to me. One or t'other is now the recent ruling.

And ;

" Similarly they will not be funding abiraterone for men who have already had enzalutamide."

If this is wrong could you please confirm with any details / refs ?

Leaves many of us in a difficult position.

Rob - No it's correct. I have finished 18 months on Abiraterone and have been told by Oncologist N.H.S. England have banned Enzalutamide to patients who have previously been prescribed Abiraterone.

Have been writing to M.P.'s P.M. etc. to try to get this ruling reversed, but not holding my breath. It is immoral to withhold drugs that can enhance quality and possibly extend life when we are contributing towards India's Mars probe, Nigeria's moon shot and all the rest of money we waste abroad.

There is a petition on this site calling for this ban to be lifted.

Well then we should all celebrate with Glen that for some reason this particular onco is able to give her husband a rare opportunity - and every time that happens, it increases the likelihood of the ban being overturned.

Wonderful news Glen x

Thanks everyone. Very interesting about the not being allowed Abiraterone after Enzalutamide as I understood recently that you could have it this way round but not the other. Maybe things have changed and I've not heard this - if it's correct then it's a right bummer!

We'll just have to hope that the magic beans work for a while yet and then tackle the next stage.

It's a right b*s*ar* this disease.

The ruling takes no account of the effectiveness of Abiraterone. Some men get years on it and some (like me) get absolutely nothing. My Oncol reckons that there is a good case to give it to men that receive no benefit from Abiraterone. The longer Abby works for you the less likely Enzalutamide will be effective but until you try it, you don't know! NICE has turned down every single drug for PCa in the last decade (at least initially). It took over 60 years for the first life extending drug to be approved for PCa (Docetaxel 2004) whilst we have seen a proliferation of breast cancer drugs since the seventies (with an accompanying survival rate). Am I on my high horse? You bet! http://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif

Update following my husband's appointment with Oncologist today after 6 months on Enzalutamide. PSA 0.03, haemoglobin 10.5. 8 more weeks prescribed. Next appt mid-Feb.

Fabulous result, the magic beans are still doing their stuff. I think Christmas 2014 starts here.

It's still a roller coaster, it's been very hard in the build up to the appointment as things can change at the drop of a hat. However, as everyone knows, we have to live with this.

I'm cutting down to 3 days per week from the New Year so we can have more long weekends and spend more time together, luckily my employer is very understanding, I am lucky in this respect.

All the best everyone.
