With this thread suddenly woken up, I just spotted this.

I would say things are very different today. None of the forms or staff assume you are heterosexual, and any advice given about having sex always includes gay sex too. Being a trans woman probably is still a tough ride, although I didn't see any at any point during my treatments. Having said that, there were women mixed with us in radiotherapy with breast, cervical, and bowel cancer. (The most notable patients were those handcuffed to prison warders, of which I saw several.)

Andy, unless you are gay or a MSM (which you may of course be), perhaps you should talk to a few more gay or trans men with prostate cancer. A straight man may not be best placed to walk in a gay man's shoes. We have had gay and bi members here who had to explain to their CNS how a gay man has or receives anal sex and the part the prostate plays in that. ED nurses may have no idea that you need a much firmer erection for anal penetration than vaginal. Although both of our ED nurses have been aware that vitaros, muse etc must not be used anally or for oral sex, the vacuum pump DVD doesn't exactly go into detail about the problem of directing a wobbly penis into a resistant space. I understand they have had a couple of really good speakers at the PCa GBTQ support group but I know that a couple of members travelled a long way to attend because there was nothing similar in their own area.
