Clinical Trials, My New Journey

PSA result from last week showed it completely stable. It is over 400 but was told by consultant not to obsess over it as all of my blood works are good. I do have to admit I feel great though!

It does look that the SRA737/Gemcitabine combo has stopped the clock on any progression which is great.

As you know, this trial covers 5 different cancers but in a few months a trial specifically for prostate cancer will commence. It is combining the SRA737 with a PARP inhibitor (which prevents cancer cells from repairing themselves) called Naraparib.

Best regards

Well, today should have been day one of cycle (month) 7....

However, I had my 2 monthly CT scan last week and unfortunately the indication is that a new area of bone in my left hip is showing signs of disease. Took me a bit by suprise as I feel totally pain free and fine. A bone scan has been arranged for Wednesday as the last one I had was back in September. There is a (small) chance that it has always been there and as occurred on my right hip that the bone is healing itself and it is the thickening that is showing up on the CT scan. I will know the verdict next week.

Every treatment I have had to date has shown signs of failure at this period of time.

Everything else is completely stable, my PSA and more importantly, the mets to my lungs. If it is deemed that this is indeed progression, then unfortunately I am off the trial.

I will know next Monday.

Going to be a long week...

Best regards

After a long week of worry, the bone scan confirmed new mets to my bones. However this seems to contradict the results from my blood works which show stability with nothing adverse.

However, the protocols of the clinical trial are clear. This trial has not worked. I did point out (which they agreed) that when I started on the trial seven months ago, I had a nagging pain in my right hip, my PSA  was doubling every three weeks and was over 600 at one point, and I felt terrible.

Fast forward to today, I am completely pain free, my PSA is stable (although higher than I would like, and I feel great! Hard to think of that as a failure!

The good news is I have been offered another trial! I cannot start until I have at least 30 days of no treatment so it will all kick off again the day after Easter bank holiday Monday!

I will close this thread now to avoid confusion and start a new one with all the relevant details. I will do that tomorrow as exhausted from the stress of today!

Best regards

Sounds like a success  that you feel great compared to a year ago. Hope the next trial keeps you feeling well and pain free.

Best of luck with the new trial, and I look forward to hearing how you get on. Enjoy your time off. I am in a similar situation myself and due to start chemo in a few weeks. Best wishes DW
